Garey Chadwick

The writer of the criteria for the UGA Gold Club Award must have used a description of Garey Chadwick as the mold. There couldn’t be a more perfect fit. His jovial, friendly personality is a delight. His happy demeanor brings joy to every gold tournament. His friendship is given generously. He is respectful of everyone and courtesy is his hallmark.
His greatest devotion has been to junior golfers. He has served on the Board of Directors of Utah Junior Golf Association since its inception in 1980 and still serves in that capacity. He spent his vacations for 12 years traveling with and supervising about 40 different boys while serving as captain of the Utah Junior America’s Cup Team. Because of his special leadership qualities, the boys gained a great respect for him and even after many years, the bond of friendship remains clearly evident. He served as the president of Davis Park Men’s Club for two years and was elected to the UGA Board of Directors in 1979. He served on the UGA Board for 12 years and was President of the UGA in 1986 and 1987. During those years the UGA made many significant contributions to golf and many new programs were created. He was very supportive of the PGA professionals and helped create a positive, cooperative environment between the two governing bodies in Utah gold. He has served on the USGA Public Links Championship Committee since 1981, and has been a volunteer for all of the PGA Senior Tour and Nike Tour events held in Utah.
He served 11 years in the Army Reserve, 13 years on the LDS Athletic Committee, and has been an official in basketball, baseball, and softball in high school and recreation leagues for 25 years.
He was born April 5, 1938 in Ogden and graduated from Weber High School in 1956. He married Elaine Facer in 1958 and they have four children, Doug, Cherie (Thompson), Kent, and Robert.
His significant years of service highlighted by his contagious smile have earned him the love and respect of his fellow golfers.
