The Ledges Spring Amateur

Young Cooper Jones and Utah veteran amateur Kurt Owen battle cold winds and each other at  The Ledges GC.

For Lone Peak sophomore Cooper Jones The Ledges Spring Amateur couldn’t have started any better. Jones made six birdies and eagle vs two bogeys on his way to posting a (-6) 66 in the opening round Feb. 26 at The Ledges Golf Club near St. George, Utah.

“I putted very, very well,” said Jones after the first round. “I look forward to trying to keep the lead tomorrow, that’s something that I don’t have the chance to do that often. I look forward to competing for my first UGA (PPR) win, that has been my biggest goal for a while now.”

At the end of the day Jones had a 4-stroke lead over Kurt Owen and four other players were 5-strokes back heading into Saturday’s final round.

With wind-chill temps in the mid-30s, wind gusts of 25-30 miles per hour, plus hard and fast course conditions and a few tucked hole locations, the final round of the Utah Golf Association Player Performance Ranking event presented some extreme conditions.

Just the kind of day that long-time amateur and veteran of many PPR tournaments Kurt Owen could capitalize on.
